Fig Tree Hill Resort, Penang

#Family resort admist rain forest, valley and antique furnishing

I have been to Penang several times. Penang is always known as the Pearl of Orient with a lot of heritage buildings, cultural stuffs and famous local street foods. This time we would like to explore the island from a different perspective. Therefore while booking an accommodation for the trip I had selected Fig Tree Hill Resort which features unique antique design nested in natural environment.

We set off from KL early in the morning. Our first stop is to visit Penang Hill. We spent some times on top of Penang island and we had some local food as lunch and continued our journey to Fig Tree Hill Resort situated at Sungai Ara at about 4 pm.

Fig Tree Hill Resort is built in a tropical jungle. There are 5 different types of villa designs with different antique element. Some villas are standing by the stream, some has fascinating view of the landscape while some are hidden among the trees. We had our chance to experience both Melor and Lily. Both villas are a little bit too big for just 3 of us. It could actually fit up to at least 2 families with its 2 large bedrooms, spacious living area with long sofa, satalite TV and Karaoke, long table outdoor dining section and Jacuzzi.

It was just as described in their website, each Balinese style villa is like a sanctuary itself – built out of natural material like wood and stones, decorated with a lot of antiques which are the owner’s collection from different countries of the world. In the resort there is a swimming pool and a lot of common places for visitors to get together or organize activities. When you are at the resort, you are basically isolated from the city you used to know, although it’s quite near from town. We were a little bit tired after long distance travel of the day. Therefore we cook for a simple meal, enjoyed dinner at our villa, watch TV programs and sing Karaoke before we called it a day.

I woke up early in the morning on the second day to practice Yoga at the balcony. It was a great experience to enjoy fresh air, cool breeze and listen to the symphony of bird chirping during Yoga session. Breakfast was served by the resort at our outdoor dining space. The whole resort was showered by gentle sunlight shone through the giant trees in the morning. The temperature was a little bit cooler than the city which made outdoor activities comfortable. After dining we went for jungle trekking to show our daughter floral and fauna which she had never seen before. We saw a group of motor cyclists having their gathering. There were also foreign travelers relaxing, reading books at the common area.

At noon, we had requested the resort concierge to arrange us a trip to Georgetown to have our lunch. We also visited Penang Peranakan Mansion, Khoo Kong Si and other nearby attractions. We came back to Fig Tree Hill Resort in the evening and started our barbeque at night.

Before checking out the next morning, we went swimming at the swimming pool. The shallow pool is ideal for kids while there is a deeper pool for adults. We had taken a lot of memorable photos during this trip. Recharged with a lot of positive energy, we are now ready to back to our busy life and work hard again!
