Muntri Mews Hotel and Residence, Penang

Located along Muntri Street which falls under the UNESCO World Heritage buffer zone, the Muntri Mews Hotel and Residence gives its customers a unique heritage hotel experience. Formerly a communal horse carriage shed, this place was painstakingly restored to transform it into a contemporary accommodation without losing its essence of history. The hotel still uses the original wooden door and window frames, roofs and trusses which gives it a timeless look. The hotel decor can bring anyone through a journey in time as it features old photographs from the late 19th century, old enamel trays and drinking glasses. Plants line the gardens to give a tropical vibe to the hotel.

The rustic design of the hotel can be seen in the rooms too. The hotel rooms are actually converted from a combination of 2 horse carriage parking bays. There are 3 types of rooms in Muntri Mews which are the Mews Standard Room, Family Room, and Executive family. Mews Residences are whole apartments that can fit up to 20 people. All the rooms are beautifully furnished with beds covered in Peranakan quilt. The eclectic furnishing has pops of antique knick knacks which can give you an experience of being in a different era.


Mews Cafe
Enjoy delicious Malay food at the Mews Cafe, the in-house restaurant of Muntri Mews Hotel and residences. What better is that the cafe is animal friendly. The dining menu feature local favourites such as Nasi Lemak, Bubur Lambuk, Laksa Lemak, Cucur Udang and many more. They also serve homemade chicken pie, fish and chip and other variation of local food. They also have an assortment of refreshing drink and mocktails for you to choose from. Their famous Mews Mojito is made from lime, passion fruit syrup and lychee which is definitely refreshing after a tired day of exploring the wonders of Penang.

Muntri Mews has many complementary services to ensure that their guests have the best experience there. One of the main highlights is that Muntri Mew is pet friendly. Peranakan or Baba Nyonya are a prominent community in Penang. Peranakan unique lifestyle is a fusion of Malay and Chinese culture that is very much alive in Penang today. The Penang Peranakan Mansion is a typical Baba Nyonya home which can give an idea how the lifestyle and customs of the Peranakans used to be in the previous century. The house is filled with antique pieces and collectibles that will show guests the intricacies of the Peranakan culture. The design of the house features Baba Nyonya furnishing style fused with Chinese carved wood paneling, Scottish ironworks and English floor tiles.

Wonderfood Museum
Wonderfood Museum is a one of a kind museum celebrating the food heritage of Malaysia. Tucked away in Beach Street, the museum is housed in a colonial building. The museum has 3 zones – Info Zone, Wow Zone and Educational Zone. The exhibits are filled hyper-realistic models of food to give visitors an in-depth view of the various cuisines in Malaysia. The first zone has over 100 exhibits of famous street food and delicacies of the Malay, Indian, Chinese and Peranakan cultures. The Wow Zone features massive hyper-realistic model of food which is a favourite among visitors. The Education Zone has displays to educated public about negative dining choices that has a bad impact on the environment.

Prangin Mall
Prangin mall is a bargainers heaven which is located next to the Komtar complex. Prangin Mall has over 167 shops spread across 5 floors that can give anyone a good retail therapy. The mall also has Parkson and Giant Supermarket as it major tenant. Many eateries and entertainment outlets are available too.

Kompleks Tunku Abdul Rahman or Komtar Penang is one of the most prominent landmarks in Penang. With a height of 68-storey tall, Komtar is the sixth tallest building in Malaysia. The building house the state government office and retail spaces in for local boutiques and stalls. The 68th floor of the building has a viewing deck called the Rainbow Skywalk, where visitors can have a bird’s eye view of the island and mainland of Penang. A U-shaped glass walkway is available for those who are not faint-hearted to observe the world go by below. Visitors can also spot a double rainbows that arch into a pot of gold, a horseshoe chair and a unique hanging musical orchestra. A rooftop bar and bistro, Coco Cabana Bar and Bistro is also located on the top floor where visitor can enjoy cooling drink while taking in the beautiful view.
